The large building in the center is the Casino, with the gazebo to its right.<br /><br />Now long abandoned, Riverton Park in its heyday was one of the most popular recreational attractions in the state of Maine.  In fair weather, streetcars carrying visitors to Riverton would be lined up for a mile or more along Forest Avenue.<br /><br />This card, probably used as an advertisement for the Portland Railroad Company (as printed under the photograph), is in fair/good condition. It measures 8-7/8&quot; x 6&quot;.  The photo portion, 7&quot; x 4-1/16&quot;, is aqua in tone rather than the sepia of the border and is clear and unmarked, if slightly faded.  <br /><br />The heavy cardboard is uncreased, but the upper right corner has been torn off and the border is smudged.  A hole (for hanging?) has been punched in the center top.');

document.write('<img src=\"http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_155x125.133257221.jpg\" /><br />$1000.00<br />For collectors, theatre buffs, and everyone interested in Asian entertainment and culture.<br /><br />This crude and lusty fellow is Pak Dogol, a comic figure or clown from the Malay shadow theatre.<br /><br />The Pak Dogol listed here is an authentic working shadow puppet, operated in Malaysian theatrical performances by a dalang (puppeteer).  The body is 17-1/4&quot; tall and 7-1/2&quot; wide at the hips.  The articulated arms, controlled by sticks, are 9-3/4&quot; long; and the representational Malay knife in one hand is 9-1/4&quot; long.  <br /><br />The articulated mouth is controlled by a string from the jaw and single wire to the base of the wood spine, which is sharpened for insertion into a horizontal banana tree log.<br /><br />Traditionally the Pak Dogol character, often associated with rice cultivation in Kelantan, has the protruding stomach, bulging navel and over developed buttocks seen in this puppet.<br /><br />This Pak Dogol is handmade of water buffalo hide and is in very good vintage condition.  To the best of my knowledge he is at least 50 years old.  <br /><br />As well as a fine addition to any collection of Asian memorabilia, this puppet would also make a unique wall hanging.<br /><br />The last image is a drawing of Pak Dogol in the book &quot;Traditional Drama and Music of Southeast Asia&quot; (listed separately) and is shown here to authenticate this puppet.<br /><br />He will ship free to the U.S.A. and Canada.
